Fisheries Minister Robert Goodwill today visited Grimsby Fish Market, a focal point for the local fish processing industry.
Minister Goodwill met with the Market's chief executive Martyn Boyers to discuss the government’s commitment to support the fishing industry through EU Exit.
Robert said, “Despite the fact that we no longer have a large fleet landing fish in Grimsby, it is still the centre of fish processing in the UK. Much of the fish in the market had been landed by Norwegian and Icelandic vessels and then rapidly shipped over to Grimsby while still fresh. I was shown how to fillet fish at local company, “Flatfish” followed by a meeting with the senior management of Young’s Seafood.”
The visit was rounded off with haddock and chips at “Papa’s” on Cleethorpes pier. Papa’s also have two fish and chip restaurants in Scarborough and a new one in Whitby.
