Whitby's MP has been reacting to news that the redevelopment of the town's hospital is going ahead.
We told you earlier this week how NHS Property Services had committed £11.9 million to the project.
There were concerns the money might not be provided.
The tower block will be the main area to be modernised, along with new space for other suitable organisatio
The project can now move to the design and planning stages.
Robert Goodwill said:
"There's been a question mark hanging over Whitby Hospital for some time now. In the election I made clear I would 'die in a ditch' to keep a hospital in Whitby.
I don't think people always understand how remote Whitby is and how difficult it can be for people to visit patients or access services.
Although we've seen services taken away from Whitby Hospital over the years, I think having a new facility will mean we can work to get more services being provided".
