Julia Mulligan has been selected as the Conservative Party’s candidate for North Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
In a two way nail biting contest on the 30thof June, Julia secure the selection after convincing a packed meeting comprising over 130 Conservative members held in Knaresborough, that she would stand up for greater police accountability.
Deputy Chairman of North and East Yorkshire Area Conservatives Philip Allott who also chaired the selection meeting said: “The short list comprised two first class candidates who both gave excellent performances. Ultimately Julia won the day and we are all now united behind her in preparation for the election in November.”
Yorkshire born and bred, Julia spent her childhood on a hill farm in the Washburn Valley in Harrogate District. When her father set up a business in the North, the family moved to Ravensworth near Richmond where she spent her teenage years. After graduating with an Economics degree, Julia spent over 12 years in London pursuing a business career where she worked with large global organisations developing marketing and change programmes. When her first daughter was born, Julia and her husband Patrick, returned home to North Yorkshire. In 2007 she set up her own successful marketing business.
Julia's political experience includes time as a Craven District Councillor and 3.5 years as the Conservative's Parliamentary Candidate for Leeds North West, fighting the general election in 2010. Julia and her family live near Skipton; she divides her time between working from home, from an office in Otley and is also a governor of Skipton Girl's High School.
