MP for Scarborough and Whitby Robert Goodwill has had his say following a Northern Transport Summit that took place in Leeds.
He was speaking after the summit which would see the north effectively take control of their own transport networks, most notably, railways.
Robert said:
"I was very pleased to see that we're getting money to improve the A64 and other road networks.
Whilst you look at investment in terms of infrastructure, the north has lost out. When comes to actually subsidising rail routes, the north actually does rather well and Northern rail is the most subsidised route int he north of England.
Things are already starting to change, particularly with High Speed 2, which is all about making sure cities like York and Leeds can be better connected to the capital.
Also of course the government's electrification programme which means we can have better trains and new trains not only on the Transpennine route, but also on the East Coast mainline.
With Scarborough, Whitby and Filey on the coast, we do rely on good connections both by rail and by road, to ensure our tourist industry and other industries such as potash mining and potato processing can actually compete well in terms of other places in the country."
