TWINS Rebecca and Catherine Laffan are excelling in the sport of volleyball.
The pair (14) were both part of the Yorkshire under 14s team which won the Volleyball England inter-regional championships last spring and were nominated as being in the ‘super six’ best players of the tournament.
The pair, who attend Eskdale School and come from Danby, were also chosen to compete in the junior Volleyball England Beach Tour finals where they became champions for 2010, beating a pair of girls who are England cadets and won Super Six titles at the UK School games.
A congratulatory letter from Volleyball England said: “You played very disciplined volleyball which was a joy to watch.
“The experience you have gained in competing in the senior VEBT was evident.”
What made the feat more impressive was the fact they won despite missing out on representing the north at the UK Games, where they were deemed to be too small.
Whitby Beach Volleyball Club stress they give equal opportunities to all youngsters irrespective of skill, height and attitude.
