Dear Supporters,
Could I thank everyone who participated in the recent local and parliamentary elections? In contrast to some of the national campaign, here in Scarborough and Whitby, the messages from all parties were in the best traditions of our democracy and did not degenerate into either personal abuse or negative campaigning.
Could I particularly thank the 20,613 people who again trusted me with their support, increasing my share of the vote and contributing to the election of a Conservative majority government? Our Borough is also still in the safe hands of Conservative Councillors. I also recognise the important role of opposition representatives whose job it is to hold the ruling group to account.
Please be assured that I will continue to work in the best interests of all my constituents and I look forward to the next five years as we deliver on our manifesto promises. Locally we are at an exciting point in time with the University, Sports Village, Water Park and Skills College being developed. There is also the prospect of over 1,000 jobs at the potash mine and exciting possibilities on the Futurist site. There has never been a better time to live and work in Scarborough.
Thank you again for your support.
Robert Goodwill
