Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill was made a Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department for Transport, a role similar to one that he held when the party was in Opposition.
Also former Raincliffe School and Scarborough Sixth Form College student, Gavin Williamson MP, has been appointed as the Prime Minister’s new Parliamentary Private Secretary.
Both men have spoken of their delight at being appointed to their new roles.
Mr Goodwill said that he had been given responsibility for cycling and will likely be asked to help steer the highly controversial £42 billion HS2 project through The House of Commons.
He decided to head to London early on Monday after a hearing a radio report.
He said: “I’d got up early and was ploughing a field and was planning to head to London in the late afternoon.
“But I put on Radio 4 and heard that the PM was planning to promote more women and also Northern MPs. I thought I should get down there just in case.
“I got into London and got a call saying the Prime Minister would like to see me.
“I went in and he very kindly asked me to become a Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department for Transport.
“There are some big challenges ahead, not least HS2, which is vital to meet the growing capacity needs of the country’s railways. I am delighted to have cycling too, it’s a big passion of mine as people know.”
Meanwhile, Mr Williamson, as part of his new role, will be attending Cabinet meetings on a weekly basis as he works closely with David Cameron.
Speaking after his appointment Mr Williamson, who represented the Seamer Division on North Yorkshire County Council between 2001 and 2005, said: “I am deeply honoured to be selected as the Prime Minister’s new Parliamentary Private Secretary and am very much looking forward to the challenge of this new role.”
The MP for South Staffordshire was previously the private secretary to the Secretary of State for Transport Patrick McLoughlin.
