Sir Robert Goodwill MP, and over 50 cross-party Parliamentarians, have attended an event in Parliament to show Solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle against Putin’s illegal invasion.
The event, hosted by the Purpose Coalition and Leonardo - one of the UK’s largest defence and security organisations - brought together Ukrainian refugees, and those who have supported them in Britain, alongside Britain’s defence and diplomacy organisations, and senior representatives from Embassies from across the world, to show support for how the UK can, and is, upholding our values across the world to support Ukraine.
The Purpose Coalition brings together major organisations to share best practice around social mobility and levelling up, including through the Coalition’s Jobs for Ukraine Pledge, launched in early 2022 with the Adecco Group, to support those coming to Britain from Ukraine with education and training opportunities with major employers.
Sir Robert MP said:
"Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine has affected us all, and over 500 days since the war started, we must all stand together to show solidarity with Ukraine, and all its people. The government, working with our innovative defence sector, has provided unprecedented support to Ukraine to defend itself, and it is vital we all continue to show our support, and make sure Ukraine wins the war.”
Clive Higgins, Chair and CEO, Leonardo UK said:
“From across UK society, many have actively demonstrated their support for Ukraine, both professionally and personally, including opening their doors to Ukrainian refugees. The UK defence sector is a critical part of the overall defence of Ukraine and I am proud that equipment provided by Leonardo is helping to protect infrastructure and save lives today.”
Speaking at the event, Rt Hon Penny Mourdant, Leader of the House of Commons, Lord President of the Council, and former Secretary of State for Defence said
“We want people to be able to have life experiences and build connections, so that when there is victory for Ukraine, that future is secure and it hasn't been put on pause. That’s why these personal networks are so critical. It's an absolute example of the best of civil society and business working together, with a little bit of help from government. We are going to ensure this war is won, and won in the right way.”
