Clinicians from Scarborough’s Haxby Group GP practice have welcomed local MP Sir Robert Goodwill to view the improvements there.
Doctors and managers showed Sir Robert around the newly refurbished surgery and explained how the practice had worked hard to achieve its 'Good' rating, following its recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The GP Practice says it is keen to connect with the Scarborough community and its representatives. It says the Scarborough MP showed interest in hearing how Haxby Group had introduced state-of-the-art new technology to make sure patients who needed urgent treatment and care were seen by the right clinician.
He discussed the various concerns raised by the public and heard about the pressure on local healthcare, particularly around recruitment issues.
Dr Omnia Hefni, GP Partner at Haxby Group, said:
"We wanted our MP to come and see first-hand how patients are benefiting from the investment Haxby Group is putting into our healthcare facilities here in Scarborough. We need people to work with us if we are to overcome the many issues facing General Practice and we really want to connect with our community to do this."
Commenting, Rt Hon Sir Robert Goodwill MP, said:
“I was pleased to see how this practice has moved with the times to tailor the service to each patient and to ensure that urgent cases are prioritized. Sadly, in these difficult Covid times, I get complaints about other practices where patients find it hard to get through on the phone which can often pile additional pressures onto the hospital A & E. I am sure being part of Haxby Group has benefited patients in this practice.
Although we have increased the number of medical school places and introduced easier immigration routes for international doctors, we still have a problem recruiting out on the coast and I promised to pass these concerns onto health ministers.”
