“Robert Goodwill participated in a “virtual” meeting of the All Party Group for Motor Neurone disease today. (5th June 2020). The group is chaired by Conservative MP, Andrew Lewer. The group were updated about the effect that the Covid-19 pandemic was having on those living with MND. It was stressed that when a vaccine becomes available then MND sufferers should be in the first tranche of vulnerable people to be vaccinated. MND Association Patron, Eddie Redmayne who starred as Professor Stephen Hawkings on screen underlined this point.
Professor Amman Al-Chalabi from Kings College, University of London gave an update on research progress and how it was being hampered at the moment by not being able to have face to face meetings with patients. Robert asked the Professor if we could do more to coordinate international cooperation into finding a cure for this disease that afflicts on in three hundred and fifty people but because it kills the majority of patients within two years maybe doesn’t get as much attention as chronic diseases such as dementia, diabetes or some cancers.”
