Mr Goodwill said: “This investment by Sport England is a real boost for the Active Coast and Country project and for people in Scarborough and Whitby. Thanks to this funding, even more local people can get involved in playing sport and being active.”The project aims to get more people in Scarborough playing sport, particularly young people, families and women. The project will give a boost to community sports clubs, supporting their exiting activities and helping expand the range of opportunities for local people to get involved ion sport.
This latest investment brings Sport England’s total funding of community sport projects and facilities in Scarborough and Whitby to £508,368 since 2010.
Announcing the funding, Sport England Director of Community Sport, Mike Diaper said: “Our fund is about helping communities to use their local knowledge to design the right actives for people living in their area. There are many reasons why people shy away from being active, and sometimes the solutions require thinking outside of the box – I am confident the funding announced today does that.”
