Robert Goodwill, MP for Scarborough and Whitby, today gave a surprise boost to three of the town’s young unemployed residents when he visited the local Morrisons store during the trio’s participation in the Feeding Britain’s Future programme.
As part of Feeding Britain’s Future, companies from across the food and grocery industry are offering 15,000 free training opportunities for young unemployed people. Morrisons alone is providing nearly 1,500 places across its stores.
In the supermarket’s Scarborough store, Abbigal Aziz, Dave Ambury and Carina Trayton have been participating in the programme which includes retail training on the company’s Market Street counters, checkouts and Customer Service desk. The company is also providing CV writing tips and interview skills sessions.
During the programme, Robert Goodwill MP joined the candidates in the store’s Cake Shop to discover how the craft skilled specialists freshly prepare a variety of cakes and pastries in store each day. While trying his hand at creaming the perfect cake, the MP also spent time chatting to each of the participants about their experiences during the programme.
Robert Goodwill MP said: “I was delighted to join Abbigal, Dave and Carina at the local Morrisons store and talk to them about their experiences during their placement. It is fantastic to see companies like Morrisons participating in Feeding Britain’s Future, which is helping to give young people the skills and experience they need to get back into work.”
As a result of participating in the programme, candidates will be added to the company’s shortlist for future vacancies at the store and each receives a Level 1 Food Safety qualification.
