Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill visited the Albert to celebrate the Scarborough pub getting back to business after a transformational refurbishment.
The MP visited the Albert to celebrate its re-opening following a major investment costing £200,000 by the new leaseholder Mike and Pauline Hirst in partnership with owners Punch Taverns.
The refurbishment took place over four weeks in May.
Mike and Pauline took Robert Goodwill MP on a tour of the premises and then invited him behind the bar to pull a pint.
Robert Goodwill MP said: “Pubs such as the Albert are an important part of our local community. It’s great to see this investment which is a boost for the town and the local economy, especially with the creation several local jobs and letting rooms.
“I was blown away by the high standard of the refurbishment and thoroughly enjoyed my visit to such a well-run community pub, it’s warm and welcoming and a pub Scarborough can be proud of. I wish Mike and Pauline every success.”
Licensee Mike was delighted with the pub’s positive start: “The launch party was a huge success, we had received fantastic support from Punch Taverns in re-launching the pub and we have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from customers,” he said.
“The local residents love everything about the new look and feel, with many commenting that they have wanted a place like this for a long time.
“The food is doing well, with lots of compliments to the chef. In fact, we have had to take on two additional members of staff.
“It’s great to see a local MP supporting the pub industry. I want to thank the community for their support and I’m enjoying welcoming them back as well as some new faces – which is great!”
Andy King, Punch Taverns’ Partnership Development Manager for the Albert, commented: “I want to thank Robert Goodwill MP for visiting the Albert. The Albert is a great example of a pub at the heart of the community.
“The pub sets high standards in all areas of the business and the pub is performing well. I expect this to continue and I look forward to working with Mike, Pauline and the team going forward.”
