Scarborough’s MP Robert Goodwill has been given a promotion as part of the Prime Minister’s reshuffle of the Cabinet.
Mr Goodwill, who was previously as assistant Whip, is now a Lord Commissioner to HM Treasury. The role is still within the Whips Office, and will see Mr Goodwill perform a number of parliamentary functions including the opening and prorogation of Parliament, the confirmation of a newly elected Speaker of the House of Commons and the granting of Royal Assent.
His promotion comes as Prime Minister David Cameron announces a number of changes to the coalition’s cabinet. Mr Goodwill said: “I think the Prime Minister has taken an opportunity to bring in some new talent both from the 2010 intake and the 2005 intake, and earlier, so we have got a good mix of people. It’s good that Greg Knight, MP for East Yorkshire has joined as a Whip. The plan is to make it clear that is itsn’t just the business department and treasury that should be driving economy growth: every department should be focussing on it.”
