Theresa May says she is "looking forward" to coming to Scarborough in 2020 for National Armed Forces Day.
Speaking at Prime Minister's Questions today, MP for Scarborough and Whitby Robert Goodwill asked:
"We're absolutely delighted that Britain's premier resort, Scarborough, will be the location for the National Armed Forces Day event in 2020.
Could I ask the Prime Minister, is she's looking forward to coming to Scarborough, as much as we're looking forward to welcoming her on 27 June 2020?"
Mrs May said:
"I'm delighted that Salisbury and Scarborough will be hosting the day in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
In regards to Scarborough, Armed Forces Day will give people yet another reason for wanting to visit the great resort of Scarborough in 2020.
I certainly look forward to continuing Armed Forces Day in the future and being able to join him in celebrating it in Scarborough."
On Saturday, we revealed that the town would host the national event in two years' time following what the Ministry of Defence called an "outstanding bid."
Scarborough Borough Council Leader Derek Bastiman is hoping to put on events for the whole week leading up to the day in 2020.
