The eye clinic at Whitby Hospital is set to be reinstated - after it was dropped by health bosses last year.
The first clinic will take place on Wednesday 8 April. A full day clinic will be provided every alternate week.
It is being run by the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust after being dropped by previous provider York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
It blamed extra pressure on the department and lack of resources.
However, the decision meant patients from Whitby had to make a round trip to Scarborough which could take hours by public transport for what was often an appointment lasting just a few minutes.
The NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group which manages healthcare in Whitby received several complaints about another service being removed from Whitby Hospital and have been looking at possible solutions.
Debbie Newton, Chief Operating and Finance Officer, said: “We’ve worked hard to reinstate this clinic.
“We completely understand that people in Whitby and the surrounding area place great value on access to services close to home.
“It is something to which we are committed to preserving and enhancing wherever it is clinically appropriate”.
“We know colleagues at South Tees Hospitals very well, and we are very confident in this new service. It provides peace of mind for patients who will receive the ongoing care they need here in Whitby.”
