Apprenticeship opportunities were celebrated in Scarborough with a week marking the benefits of ‘earn while you learn’ programmes.
National Apprenticeship Week saw a number of events across the town, including an apprenticeship fair organised by Scarborough’s Jobcentre Plus.
Held at the Town Hall, the event brought together nine organisations and showcased more than 40 different apprenticeships on offer.
Scarborough MP Robert Goodwill has also spent time in the town looking at how apprentices contribute to the economy.
He visited The Academy in Roscoe Street, where he talked to hair and beauty apprentices and found out how they studied at the new centre in Scarborough while working at salons across the town.
He also enjoyed a haircut and manicure by the students while he was there.
Mr Goodwill also visited YH Training Services in Falsgrave Road to praise local learners and employers for their dedication to skills qualification and training. He spent time with each apprentice and discussed what qualification they were undertaking, and also who they were employed with.
Mr Goodwill then gave a talk about the future of Apprenticeships, the local economy and the struggle for young people to get into employment.
While in Scarborough Mr Goodwill also visited Yorkshire Coast Enterprise in Northway; a business start up support and development agency in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale. He learnt how the organisation supports entrepreneurs to help get their business venture off the ground, with a view to assisting the local economy.
Mr Goodwill said: “Yorkshire Coast Enterprise is helping hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs get the finance and support to strike out on their own and launch their own business.”
